Pine Needle oil is extracted from the needles (which are a kind of leaves) of the pine tree. There are 115 species of pine tree, all of which belong to family Pinaceae. Pines are evergreen resinous trees which grow from 3 m to 80 m tall and are very long lived. The trunk of the tree has the thick and scaly bark, the flowers of the tree are yellow and fruits are brown woody cones. Pine tree has four types of leaves which are- Seed leaves, Juvenile leaves, Scale leaves and Needles. These needles are used to extract the essential oil of pine by steam distillation process. This oil is pale yellow in color and has a musky forest smell. The chemicals this oil contains are borneol, bornyl acetate, a, b-phallandrene, b-pinene and 3-carene.
